I’ve been trying to use up as many “one time” plays as possible before the inevitable end of lala.com, which is why I haven’t updated much. I’m sorry for the void and posting will hopefully resume soon. In other news, I’ve started a new project. I’ve asked some friends to make “a playlist that embodies your personality.” It’s kind of morphed into making a playlist of your favorites, or songs that others might attribute to you. With school and separation fast approaching, I wanted to have something unique and personal that would remind me of my friends. Since we all love music so much, it works out. I’m testing this out on a small group before I inconvenience too many others. It’s no small feat, making your playlist.
I’ve been working on mine, and I’ve been choosing based loosely on just about 3 things.
1. Whether or not I’d listen to the song over and over (repeatability). And if it were to play randomly, would I listen all the way through.
2. The method with which I was introduced to the song. Songs that have memories attached are a bonus. If a song is strongly attributable to another person, I’ll try to leave it out. Songs I discovered on my own are less easily deleted, but for some reason, those aren’t as repeatable as others.
3. Whether or not I know the words to the song. Chances are, if I’ve bothered to learn some of the words, I really like the song. If I can sing the whole song, it’s almost definitely on there.
I started with almost a thousand songs and am now at 422, and still whittling slowly. I don’t think it’ll end up perfect, but hopefully it’ll be a representative enough sample to remind the listener of me, or give the listener some idea of my musical personality.
Oh, I wanted to include songs I stumbled across while looking for good ones to add. A couple great songs I found in my library that I can’t believe I’ve neglected all these years: Madonna’s “Hung Up” and Jupiter One’s “Countdown.”
